We're addicted to houses.
No really, it might be clinical.
Hunter Home inspections was founded in 2014. We've always been a family establishment. When the current ownership bought the business in 2015, we knew right away that we wanted to shift the focus of our specialty to old homes. Sure, we inspect new homes, too. We offer the same level of dedication and interest in every home we inspect. However, we love to focus on reading the stories that older homes tell. Each home is a touchpoint to the stories of every family that has lived there. By buying an older home, you are living in a physical memory that connects you to other people's lives. We try to learn more than just the boards and wires of a house. We try to understand what has happened to the house in its past and convey how that might influence your future.
For years before we became "home inspectors", we were just obsessed old home enthusiasts. When other guests would be sipping drinks on the sofa, we were poking around the furnace room and exploring attics. We love the romance of the built environment, of small doors that lead to secret nooks, of built in features that show the craftsman's handiwork. Growing up in the third generation of a handyman family, we were raised to understand knob-and-tube wiring and how to predict what might be inside old walls without having to open them. We spent years being taught how to identify the "suffer spots" of whatever old house we were working on. Now, we pass that knowledge and experience on to you in each and every inspection we do.
Our reports include everything you'd expect from a good home inspector - full color pictures, illustrations, diagrams, recommendations, etc. But they also include some things which are not as expected, things like Thermal Image Scans, insights into the builder's methodology, and hands-on recommendations for keeping your old home alive for another hundred years. Your old house is still standing because the materials and methods were quality. It's not just good because it's old. It's old because it's good!
